 Coleambally

Coleambally is a town of some 600 people situated amidst a cypress pine forest south of the Murrumbidgee River and 645 km southwest of Sydney via the Hume and Sturt highways.  It is approximately 400 km north of Melbourne via the Newell highway.

The youngest town in NSW, Coleambally was officially opened in 1968 to serve as the administrative, commercial and social centre of the Coleambally Irrigation Area.  Begun in the 1960’s the scheme now covers 95,153 ha.  Rice is the principal crop though wheat, maize and soybeans are also grown.
